Abstract

Interval valued (i-v) fuzzy sets and vague sets are two new theories representing inexact knowledge. They have been widely applied to describe the uncertain data in decision systems. In this paper, the notions of i-v vague sets are first introduced by putting the two theories together. Then, the properties of i-v vague sets are discussed in detail. Finally,by a decision system and the operators of containment and intersection defined on it,we analyse the strategies of rule generation. In comparison with the method of using rough set theory, the two results are proved to be consistent. However, our new method behaves much flexibly in representing uncertainty.

Key words

i-v vague sets / decision system / rough sets / uncertainty
