Abstract

This paper proposes a novel strategy called correlated boundaries strategy against the two main problems of location management scheme in cellular networks:Ping-pong location update effect existing between two location areas and concentration of signals at boundaries. This strategy is able to reduce the Ping-pong effect effectively and balance the load of signals at boundaries by adding certain cells as expansions of the new location area, whenever a mobile terminal moves into a cell belongs to a new location area.Using random walk mobility model, the strategy in this paper is compared with conventional strategy and further proved by results of simulation. It is proved by both analysis and simulation that the strategy proposed in this paper is not only easy to implement, but improves the performance greatly.
