Theoretical Performance Analysis with Noise Consideration and Experiment of Wavelength Converters Based on XGM in SOAs
We give an optimal dynamic model with ASE amplified spontaneous emission noise power consideration for wavelength converters using semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) via cross-gain modulation (XGM).The theoretical results indicate that bigger bias current can perform better ER and SNR.Pump power should be in a certain range to get good performance.There is an optimal length of SOA for certain pump and probe wave.The experimental results of wavelength conversion of 2.5Gbit/s SDH signal can be explained by this model.
