Electronic cell or E-cell simulates and reveals life activities around cell internally and externally by using advanced tools of computer science
electronic information technology and others.It can be used as a new powerful tool to explore the potential nature laws of cell life.E-cell represents the frontier of life science and information science.It is a type of artificial life and a very complex system.This paper gives survey on the history and cause of E-cell research and development.And briefly presents its research contents

and its functions and great significance.Finally
we address its future prospects and some suggestions on its research progress.
