A Flow Control Mechanism for ABR Service in ATM Networks
Congestion control plays an important role in the effective and stable operation of ATM networks. This paper proposes an approach to design a rate-based flow control mechanism in order to regulate the Available Bit Rate (ABR) traffic and effectively control congestion of the networks. The goal is to share the available link capacity fairly among many competitive users to maintain queue length of a bottleneck node at a desired level. The mechanism uses a Deadbeat-Response (DR) controller and has a simple structure. Many simulations show that the mechanism is fair and has the advantages of fast convergence
