The new still image compression standard JPEG2000 adopted Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT)as the key transform technology and recommended to implement it with lifting algorithm.Spatial Combinative Lifting Algorithm (SCLA) based 2-D DWT with 9/7 filter requires 7/12 amount of computation the conventional lifting based implementation.This paper proposes a novel VLSI architecture to compute multilevel SCLA based 2-D DWT with 9/7 filter
which greatly speeds up the transform process and achieves higher hardware utilization.This architecture can be used as a compact and efficient core for JPEG2000 VLSI implementation and various real-time image/video applications.
