an efficient scheme of motion estimation for MPEG 2 video coding is proposed.According to the correlation of different types of motion vectors in a macroblock
the scheme is divided into two stages.Analysis shows t hat the proposed scheme can reduce about 17% of the computation employed by MPEG 2 Test Model 5(TM5).Simulation results show that the scheme achieves nearly the same MSE and PSNR performance as TM5.Due to adopting full search strategy in the two stages
the proposed scheme can be implemented easily in parallel.It provides a way for the implement ation of MPEG 2 video coding motion estimation in real time
