A new VLSI architecture for Vector Quantization(VQ) based on Minimum Mean Absolute Error (MMAE) is proposed.By using a criterion based on sum inequality of distortion measure
presorted codebook and nearest search method
a large number of codewords will be rejected before computing MMAE while main taining image quality.Furthermore
a dichotomy search method
an optimized MAE computation and comparasion structure has been been used .All of the above methods result in a considerable reduction in VLSI area.
