The measurement of dielectric properties of a material based on the reflection in an open-ended waveguide is a simple and nondestructive technique
which does not require extracting any sample of the material to be measured. The key of it is to determine the relationship between the reflection factor and the permittivity of the material measured. In this paper
the EM field in the vicinity of the aperture is researched by means of the Dyadic Greens Function and the characteristic modes. The reflection factor is computed by moment method as a function of the dielectric constant. The validrty of the theoretical results is proved by comparing the numerical evaluation with previous paper.
