Statistical multiplexing can be used to gain higher bandwidth efficiency
but it’s important to properly control the input traffic to avoid severe network congestion.The leaky bucket algorithm has been proposed as an important method in the rate-based traffic control in ATM networks.We derive the leaky bucket algorithm for bursty sources in ATM networks and obtain the analytical expression of the relation among the leaky bucket performance
the leaky bucket parameter and the statistical parameters of input traffic.The results of computer simulation show its concordance with the theoretical analysis.
