Abstract
Optical fiber loss measurements have always been influenced by noise
resulting in precision degradation and even ambiguity. In this paper
an idea of "Relation Function" is presented which gives quantitative relationship between measurement uncertainty
acceptable minimum signal to noise ratio and number of sampling times at each sampling point."Relation Functions" for typical fiber attenuation measurement methods
splice loss measurement methods
fault location and maximum measurable range determination are derived. Verification experimental results are shown.
