A new approach for printed Chinese character recognition is presented in this paper. According to the structure of Chinese characters
a set of structural characteristics (peripheral feature
local patterns
end points and cross points of strokes) is defined and used for pre-classification and matching.An experimental recognition system has been developed for recognizing 6763 different printed Chinese characters. Experiment shows that the correct recognition rate is better than 98%.
