Various coding schemes such as optimum linear predictors
adaptive quantizers
intraframe adaptive predictors
and intra-interframe adaptive predictors are compared by means of computer simulations. Subjective tests show that the adaptive predictor based on contour prediction improves considerably the prediction of resolution charts in comparison with the other intraframe coding schemes. For this adaptive predictor
3.7 bits per sample of the luminance signal are required to get the studio picture quality by use of Huffman code.
