Transcoding technology is a new emerging research topic.It is widely used in the fields of digital video communications and multimedia networks.Transcoding can be defined as the conversion of compressed stream into a desired form meeting the requirements of the transmission and receiving.This paper studied and discussed the classification and research advances of transcoding technology systematically and further pointed out its prospects.
