Wavelength conversion due to four wave mixing(FWM) in a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is theoretically analyzed in this paper.An analytic expression is developed describing the relationship between conversion efficiency and the characteristic parameters of SOA and input pump power.The numerical simulation results show that the wavelength conversion efficiency is influenced by the input pump power and saturation power of SOA.The theoretical evidences are given for the design of wavelength converter.
