The maximum eigenvalue varied rate criteria(MEVRC)
is presented as a new approach in determining the number of harmonics in a given signal. In contrast to AIC and MDL criteria
MEVRC does not use a bias term.It is based on the eigenvalue varied rate of the smallest eigenvalues to estimate the number of signals. Simulation results indicate that the performance of MEVRC is better than the AIC in normal SNR and sample situations
