By considering two-dimensional distribution of guide-mode field and channel-waveguides refraction index
the coupling length of a directional coupler have been theoretically derived. In order to check the accuracy of the theoretical result
a special directional coupler with four-pair electrodes has been fabricated in our labratory. The comparison of the calculated coupling length with that measured shows a relative errer of about 15.5%. Charact-erestics of the device is discussed as well.
