An efficient algorithm for fault diagnosis of nonlinear d.c. circuits is presented in this paper. Special excitation which screens the faulty branch can be found rapidly by using optimization method. In this method

the test to malfunction circuits and the calculation for the output at nominal circuits port are made alternately. By checking the response of the branches in nominal circuits to the special excitation

the fault can be located.
