A new method of amplitude snadng for near-field pattern is studied in tnis paper. In principle

it can be applied to any type of arrays. Using this method

not only the si-delobe of any regions which are restrained by the condition of Fresnel region can be restricted to a certain level

but also the pattern of the main beam can be reduced to the narrowest or near narrowest. Moreover

the position of sidelobes and zeroes and the relative height of any sidelobes can be changed by using this method. Numerical calculation on equally spaced linear point array shows that both lateral resolution and range resolution are increased.
