The band-limited function extrapolation can be considered as an approximation problem in operator space

and the Papoulis-Gerchberg method correspones to the case of approximation using Taylor series. A new iterative extrapolation algorithm

based on Lanczos-r approximation

is proposed. Theoretical and numerical analysis show that the new method has a much faster convergence rate than the Papoulis-Gerchberg method.
