This paper presents the concept of the Indefinite Scattering Matrix（ISM） of a n-port network. Two types of ISM

the node-based and the loopbased

and their relationship are discussed. Its properties under both real and complex normalizations are investigated

leadingto a new sub-set of matrix--the Equi-cofactor-sum Matrix. Some applications of the theorempresented are illustrated with examples.
