The routing algorithm adopted by the communication software of a distributed computer network is of great influence on communication efficiency

thus having direct bearing on system performances. This paper presents a routing algorithm called GUIDEPOST

which is not only simple and efficient but also independent of the network topology. Having been im-plemented on our ZCZ distributed computer system

GUIDEPOST has proved to be a better choice for the communication software of distributed microcomputer systems.
