The oxide cathodes consisting of a mixture of the oxides of the alkaline earths. Ba
Sr and Ca. are investigated by means of a scanning Auger microprobe (SAM) for their abnormal electron emission image. Analysis show that the surface segregation of Ca is the main for causing the loss of electron emission. This is quite different from the generally accepted Ba-depletion mechanism. Results also show that the topography plays no definite role in Ca segregation.
